Our First Newsletter!!!

Hero

Hello and welcome to the first news letter about my brand new board game “Colonize The New World”. Check out our official website here!

Many of you signed up expressing interest in knowing more about the game, and for that I am grateful and happy to share with you more information! I want to take this time now to answer some common questions.

Before answering questions please see the official website which gives an overview of the game. The link can be found here. There is also an about us section which tells you more about me and the creation of the game. This can be found here.

If you received this email twice, our deepest apologies, we are still learning how to do newsletters. Hopefully this won’t be a problem in the future!

Without further ado, onto to the questions!

What countries are playable?

Many have asked about what countries are playable. The game will feature the playable countries of Spain, England, Holland, and France. While there were other lesser known countries like Sweden and Portugal,  as a one man development team with limited resources I had to draw a line somewhere and could not include every country. If the game does well enough I had several ideas that did not make it into the final game that I’d love to include in an expansion pack, including more countries.

How long does the game take to play?

Many have asked about how long the game takes to play. I believe if players know how to play the game you can finish in under 3 hours. The TableTopVibe review mentioned 90-120 minutes. The first playthrough will likely be longer as there is a learning curve to the game.

Can I see a review of the game?

Yes check that out here

How many players can play?

The game can be played with up to 4 players. With a possible 5th player to play the role of the King during the revolutionary war as the king can either be a Non-Playable Character(NPC) or a human controlled character. The game can even be played by yourself with a few modifications to the rules. While the game wasn’t designed for or tested for single player play, it is possible to play it by yourself.

What else can you tell us about gameplay?

During play testing it was found no two games were ever identical. There are a lot of different strategic approaches to the game that can drastically affect how the game plays. Due to this there is a lot of replayability for the game that players will enjoy. There is also enough “randomness” to keep things feeling different and unique with each playthrough. This “randomness” is done without making the player feel overwhelmed and as if they have no control.

What about the natives?

There have been many questions concerning the natives you find on the American continents. As far as how the game handles them, players can choose to ignore them, trade with them, make treaties with them, or fight them. Each of the countries the players can play comes with unique special abilities. The French get bonuses for cooperating with the natives.

What about Slavery?

There have been a variety of comments and questions about slavery. During game design due to limited resources and the fact this game was designed by one person, slavery was not included in the game. It is that simple, and there is no other reason for it other than game design and resource limitations.

Is this game similar to other games?

While certain things are borrowed from other games as is common practice amongst board games, it is my belief that this game is a unique experience and that there is not another board game on the market like this game. While there are other games about the revolutionary war, there are none that cover the entire span of the revolution from the first Europeans who arrived in America to the revolutionary war itself. Many games focus on just the economy or land battles or sea/air battles. My game requires management of a robust economy, land battles, ocean battles, building colonies, and even managing treaties between the natives and other players in the game. Once players get used to this, it is a lot easier than it sounds and turns become quick. So no, there is not another board game that I am aware of that is like Colonize The New World. This is all the more reason to support me when the Kickstarter launches so you can get to play a truly unique board game!

What about the free game giveaway?
