Game Overview
Colonize: The New World is a turn-based competitive game in which 1 to 4 players establish and build colonies in the new lands of the Americas. Players will recover lost Indian treasures, build their forces, go to war, negotiate treaties, and ultimately declare independence from their King in an attempt to become free from tyranny and to win the game. To get to that point, players will need to spend their turns building colonies and constructing buildings, purchasing land and sea units, generating coins, and then using their units each turn to perform actions. They can build or grow a colony, battle or besiege, or simply declare independence if they believe they’re strong enough to defeat the King’s Expeditionary Force.
Historical Perspective
This is a game based on the perspective of the Europeans who colonized the Americas and as such, it was not designed to be culturally sensitive to modern times but rather reflective of the era this game is based on and the point of view of the colonists that came from Europe.
Celebrating Freedom and History
This game also celebrates the difficult struggle to become a free people, and ultimately the creation of liberty and the constitution and the bill of rights. This was and still is a novel concept when compared to the whole of history. For all the complaints people may have about America and the constitution, freedom is still an experiment that hasn’t passed the test of time, and we should consider ourselves fortunate to live during this experiment. The road to freedom is not always pretty, but it is worth it. This is a celebration of the brave men and women of the past who gave us this opportunity.
